Exarchate Bible Quiz 2014

General Rules

  1. This ongoing quiz program is intended to facilitate learning the Bible and keep up the spirit of the The Year of Faith.
  2. Only the members of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Exarchate in the USA and Canada are eligible for registration.
  3. There shall be a registration fee of $3 dollars per person, and the last date for registration shall be January 22, 2014.
  4. Participants will be divided into two groups. Group One will include all who are aged 13 and above. Children aged 12 and below shall form Group Two.
  5. All those who are born on or before December 31, 2001 will be enrolled in the age group of 13 and above. Date of birth must be necessarily given in the registration form for the participants aged twelve and below.
  6. The first set of questions shall be in Malayalam and English for the age group 13 and above (Group One).
  7. The second set of questions shall be only in English, meant for the age group 12 and below (Group Two).
  8. Questions shall be based on the KCBC approved POC version of Bible in Malayalam and the USCCB approved New American Bible (NAB) in English.
  9. The quiz will be conducted in three rounds. The highest scoring 60% of the participants in the first round in each group will qualify for the second round, and the highest scoring 60% of participants in the second round in each group will qualify for the third round.
  10. Dates and syllabus for the tests are as follows:
    • First Round
      • Round 1 – Test 1 – February 9, 2014 – Luke chapters 1-12
      • Round 1 – Test 2 – March 2, 2014 – Luke chapters 13-24
      • Round 1 – Test 3 – April 6, 2014 – Acts chapters 1-14
      • Round 1 – Test 4 – May 4, 2014 – Acts chapters 15-28
    • Second Round
      • Round 2 – Test 1 – September 28, 2014 – Luke chapters 1-24
      • Round 2 – Test 2 – October 26, 2014 – Acts chapters 1-28
    • Third Round
      • Round 3 – Final Test – November 23, 2014 – Luke and Acts
  11. The schedule of the tests will be strictly followed as far as possible. However, there could be postponements for very grave reasons, and the same shall be informed through respective pastors and our Exarchate website at least by the previous Sunday.
  12. Each test will have twenty (20) questions to be answered within fifteen minutes.
  13. Questions will be in the form of multiple choice, true/false statements, specific answer questions, etc., and each right answer will carry one mark.
  14. The total score of each participant will be published in the official website of the Exarchate three weeks after each test.
  15. 5% of the total score of each candidate in the first round and 10% of the total score of each candidate in the second round will be added to their final score in the third round to determine the winners.
  16. The highest scoring five participants in the third round in each group will be awarded with attractive prizes.
  17. The Pastor or another priest deputed by him shall be ex officio invigilator at the tests.
  18. No outside person shall help the participants in any way during the tests, nor shall any outside or mutual help be received by the participants.
  19. Participants shall not make use of the Holy Bible or any other book during the tests. Likewise, they shall not use mobile phone or any other electronic devices.
  20. Malpractice of any kind from any participant shall result in disqualification at any stage of the quiz program.
  21. In case of any dispute, written complaint shall be given to the Quiz Committee, headed by the Vicar General of the Exarchate, and the decision of the Quiz Committee will be final.
  22. At any stage of the quiz, the Quiz Committee has the authority to bring in additional rules and regulations or change the existing ones in view of smooth conduct of the quiz.
