Welcome to Father Noby Ayyaneth

Reverend Father Noby Ayyaneth has been appointed the new Pastor of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral in Elmont and also the Secretary to His Excellency Thomas Mar Eusebius. Father Noby hails from the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum. The parish community of our Cathedral accorded him a warm welcome on July 3 at the Cathedral Church. The Eparchy extends to him hearty welcome and God’s blessings in his assignments in the Eparchy.

Father Abraham Lukose moves to Toronto

Reverend Father Abraham Lukose who has been serving the Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral as its Pastor and also as the Secretary to His Excellency Thomas Mar Eusebius for the past five years is transferred to Toronto. In Toronto he is assigned as the Chaplain to the Trillian Hospital in Mississauga and also as Associate Vicar of the St. Mary’s Syro-Malankara Catholic Mission in Toronto. Father Abraham was given a cordial send off by the Cathedral Parish on July 3, 2016.

Eparchial Presbyteral Council

On July 7, a meeting of the Eparchial Presbyteral Council was held at the Don Bosco Reterat Center in Rockland County. During the meeting, the new secretary of the Presbyteral Council was elected, namely, Reverend Gigi Philip, who is presently serving the Syro-Malankara Catholic community in Toronto. Congratulations to Father Gigi Philip and thanks to Father Joseph Nedumankuzhiyil who has been serving as the secretary for the past five years.

Annual Retreat of the Eparchial Priests

The annual retreat of the priests of the Eparchy was held from July 4 to 8 at the Don Bosco Retreat Center in Rockland, New York. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Anchumuri, the Director of the Divine Retreat Center in New Jersey preached the retreat. All the priests of the Eparchy participated in the retreat along with His Excellency Thomas Mar Eusebius, the Bishop of the Eparchy.

Father Jerry Mathew offered his First Holy Qurbono

Reverend Jerry Mathew, who was ordained a priest on July 2, 2016 for the Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy in the US and Canada by His Excellency the Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius, offered his First Holy Mass on July 4 in his home parish in Detroit. At 9.30 am. on July 4, the new priest and His Excellency Thomas Mar Eusebius were received at the entrance of the Church. During the Holy Mass, His Excellency gave the homily in which he enumerated the meaning of the imageries of a priest in the New Testament, namely, the Good Shepherd, the Bread of Life and the Light of the world.

Jerry Mathew was ordained a priest for the Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy in the USA and Canada on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral in Elmont by His Excellency the Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius. Present on the occasion were also His Excellency Thomas Mar Koorilos, Archbishop of Tiruvalla, His Excellency Yoohanon Mar Chysostom, Bishop of Pathanamthitta, His Excellency James Massa, the auxiliary bishop of Brooklyn.

Brother Jobin Thomas receives the Minor Orders

Brother Jobin Thomas, studying theology at the St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie for our Eparchy, received the Minor Orders of msamrono and korooyo from His Excellency the Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 7.00 am on Saturday, June 25 at the Syro-Malankara Catholic Cathedral in Elmont. These are the Orders of ‘singing’ and ‘reading the Word of God’ respectively. Brother Jobin hails from our community in Toronto.

Deacon Jerry Mathew Graduates

Deacon Jerry Mathew graduated from St. Joseph's Dunwoodie seminary, Yonkers on May 20, 2016. He received his Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Theology, and Bachelor of Sacred Theology. During the ceremony, he was also awarded the St. Charles Borromeo Award for Academic Excellence for finishing first in his class with a perfect 4.0 GPA. The graduate's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Gracy Mathew, Fr. Michael Edathil, and Bro. Jobin Thomas were present at the event.

The oldest Malankara Catholic Parish in New York gains a church of its own

The St. Mary’s Syro-Malankara Catholic Parish, one of the three New York based parishes in the Eparchy, is blessed with a beautiful place of worship of its own in Yonkers. The parish community has been able to purchase the Most Holy Trinity Church in Yonkers from the Archdiocese of New York. This parish community was the first Syro-Malankara Catholic community established officially in the USA. Till date, this parish has been gathering for its worships and other ecclesial events at a facility in New Rochelle. The inaugural Holy Mass in the newly owned church was celebrated at 4.00 pm.
