Year of Faith Bible Quiz

General Rules

  1. This ongoing quiz program is intended to serve the purpose of learning the Bible and growing in faith during the Year of Faith.
  2. Only the members of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Exarchate in the USA and Canada are eligible for registration.
  3. There shall be a registration fee of $3 dollars per person, and the last date for registration shall be December 25, 2012.
  4. Participants will be divided into two groups. Group One will include all who are aged 13 and above. Children aged 12 and below shall form Group Two.
  5. All those who are born on or before December 31, 2000 will be enrolled in the age group of 13 and above. Date of birth must be necessarily given in the registration form for the participants aged twelve and below.
  6. The first set of questions shall be in Malayalam and English for the age group 13 and above.
  7. The second set of questions shall be only in English, meant for the age group 12 and below.
  8. Questions shall be based on the KCBC approved POC version of Bible in Malayalam and the USCCB approved New American Bible (NAB) in English.
  9. The quiz will be conducted in three rounds.
  10. In the first round, there will be four tests on the following days:
    • January 20, 2013 – first test
    • March 17, 2013 – second test
    • May 26, 2013 – third test
    • June 30, 2013 – fourth test
  11. Marks will add up cumulatively, and the highest scoring 60% of the total registrants from both the groups will qualify for the second round of tests.
  12. There will be two tests in the second round: the first, on August 18, 2013 and the second, on September 15, 2013.
  13. Marks will add up cumulatively, and the highest scoring 30% of the total registrants from both the groups will qualify for the third round, which shall have only one test, to be conducted on October 20, 2013.
  14. Each test will have twenty (20) questions to be answered within fifteen minutes.
  15. Questions will be in the form of multiple choice, true/false statements, specific answer questions, etc., and each right answer will carry one mark.
  16. For the first round, the division of syllabus will be as follows:
    • January 20, 2013 – Matthew chapters 1-15
    • March 17, 2013 – Matthew chapters 16-28
    • May 26, 2013 – Roman chapters 1-8
    • June 30, 2013 – Romans chapters 9-16
  17. In the second round, questions shall be from the entire Gospel of Matthew for the first test, and from the entire Letter to the Romans for the second test.
  18. In the third round, questions shall be from both the Gospel of Matthew and the Letter to the Romans.
  19. For the second and third rounds, one short commentary each for the Gospel of Matthew and the Letter to the Romans will be suggested for the age group 13 and above. This information will be available in the official website of the Exarchate - www.syromalankarausa.org - by the end of February.
  20. The schedule of the tests will be strictly followed as far as possible. However, there could be postponements for very grave reasons, and the same shall be informed through respective pastors and our Exarchate website at least by the previous Sunday.
  21. The total score of each participant will be published in the official website of the Exarchate within three weeks after each test.
  22. The highest scoring five participants in the third round in each group will be awarded with attractive prizes.
  23. Participants shall not make use of the Holy Bible or any other book during the tests. Likewise, they shall not use mobile phone or any other electronic devices.
  24. No outside person shall help the participants in any way during the tests, nor shall any help be received from outside.
  25. Malpractice of any kind from any participant shall result in disqualification at any stage of the quiz program.
  26. The Pastor or another priest deputed by him shall be ex officio invigilator at the tests.
  27. In case of any dispute, written complaint shall be given to the Quiz Committee, headed by the Vicar General of the Exarchate, and its decision shall be final.
