Construction of New Church for the Houston Parish

  • Posted on: 12 November 2012

The parish community of the St. Peter’s Syro-Malankara Catholic Parish at Houston has launched the construction of a new church. The foundation stone for the new church was laid by His Excellency the Most Rev. Thomas Mar Eusebius on November 2, 2012 in the presence of Rev. Fr. Job Kalluvilayil, the pastor and the parishioners. Priests from the Syro-Malabar parishes in Houston and Fr. Noby Ayyaneth from the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum were also present on the occasion. His Excellency celebrated the Holy Mass for the parish community in the morning and this was followed by the ceremony of the laying of the foundation stone. This day was the annual picnic day of the parish.

The Syro-Malankara Catholic community in Houston was established in 1985 and it was raised to the status of a canonical parish in the Syro-Malankara Catholic Exarchate in USA on February 12, 2012. The existing church with a property of 3.25 acres of land was procured in 2008. But the fast growth of this community both spiritually and numerically, made it inevitable to strive for a larger and more convenient place of worship. Consequently, since a couple of years the community has been striving to gather the resources required to build a new church. The laying of the foundation of the new church marks the confident beginning of the realization of an ardent dream of this parish community. May God bless our Houston parish to complete this project according to His plan.
